This is one case that is quite close to my heart.

Reasons being...

1) He is of the same age as me and I cannot imagine how much he has been through
2) This case is one of the reason I realized how the system can fail its people

Donald Rudolph, 23, is currently held in Bridgewater State Hospital for the criminally insane (a harsh as fuck place btw - refer to the end of post). He spent his younger days bouncing from foster home to foster home where he was abused and neglected.

He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder and tourettes and had absolutely no help. Exactly 11 months before the murders, Rudolph turned 18 and got legally "aged out" of the system, leaving him jobless, homeless and involved with drug use. Being homeless, he lived in the woods for 9 months.

On November 10, 2011, a disoriented Rudolph was found covered in blood in his parent's home. He had killed Frederick Medina - the boyfriend's of Rudolph's mother, Paula - Rudolph's mother and Caylin - Rudolph's sister. Rudolph's other sister, Brittany, escaped the murder as she was away in collage.

Brittany did not blame Rudolph for the sudden outburst, but instead, she stated that the state officals missed the obvious signs that Rudolph needed help and resources. "The way they handled it - the system," she says, "they basically created a criminial."

Donald Rudolph is no way a cold-blooded murder. Even til this day, he has no recollection of what he has done and thinks that his mother is currently being held by the government.

Pulau Senang, an island 13km off the southern coast of Singapore, is known for being used as an experiment to exile prisoners by separating them on the remote island, away from the general population.

This experiment started on 18 May, 1960, with 50 detainees which rose up to 320 in three years. They believed that through hard work, the detainees could be reformed. This believe led to the removal of weapons from the guards.

However, this experiment backfired.

On 12 July, 1963, a group of 70-90 detainees rioted and burned down most of the building, killing D.S Dutton - the Commander and two other wardens. One of their eyeball was even being dug out. A total of 29 other wardens were also wounded.

After a grueling 64 days trial, 12 were acquitted and discharged, 11 were sentenced to jail for 2 years and 18 were given the death sentence.

Lol, Singaporeans can also be quite fierce ya.

Fun Fact: The 18 detainees who were sentenced to death, led Darshan Singh, the Chief Execution of Singapore, to break the world record for the highest number of people to be hanged in one day - 3 at a time.

Albert Fish, also known as The Gray Man, Werewolf of Wysteria and The Brooklyn Vampire, is a sado-masochistic serial killer with crimes involving sexual perversion, cannibalism, coprophilla, urophilla, pedophilla and masochism.

His family's background in mental illness, which includes religious psychosis, as well as the death of his father, led to Fish's placement in the orphanage. It was in the orphanage where he was frequently physically abused. The abuses contributed to his enjoyment for physical pain, possibly started when he chooses to enjoy as a form of a coping mechanism.

At the age of 12, he got into a homosexual relationship where his partner introduced Fish to practices such as consuming urine and faeces. From this time, Fish explored in the areas of sexual perversion like watching boys undress, raping boys and was even involved in prostitution himself. Even as he enter adulthood, he continued molesting children, mostly boys under the age of six.

Fish's obsession with inflicting pain on himself and others grew further when one of his male lover brought him to a waxwork museum where he encountered and got fascinated by a bisection of a penis. It is from here that he got obsessed with the idea of castration - In one of his relationship with a mentally retarded man, Fish attempted to castrate him after tying him up but failed. Fish also increased his number of visits to brothels where he could be whipped and beaten more often.
From his early years, he was extremely fascinated by the bible. But as he grew older, his religious interests blew up into a full-fledged mania. He said he heard voices which led him to interpret divine commandments to go ahead to torment and kill. He tortured and killed children in response to these delusions and subjected himself to masochistic torments in atonement for his sins. One of the most famous, talked about torment that he did to himself was to shove sewing needles into his groin so deep that they remained embedded around his bladder.

Fish's first offical attack started in 1910 with 3 confirmed victims and multiple possible victims. His methods of killing included strangulation or stabbing before consuming his victims. For the hopelessly demented Fish, his form of cannibalism had religious overtones as well. He told a psychiatrist who examined him in prison that he associated the eating of the child's flesh and the drinking of the blood with the "idea of Holy Communion".

After a 10 days trial, Fish was sentenced to death by electrocution. The prospect of being electrocuted appealed to him. A Daily News reporter wrote, "his watery eyes gleamed at the thought of being burned by a heat more intense than the flames which he often seared his flesh to gratify his lust."
Fish thanked the judge for his sentence of death by electrocution. He was finally executed on January 16, 1936.

Fun fact: The first jolt of electricity of over 3000 volts did not kill Fish. All that happened was blue smoke appeared around him. This failure was probably caused by the amount of needles that he put into his body, causing a short circuit. After the second jolt of over 3000 volts, Fish was finally pronounced dead.

Gao Chengyong, also known as Chinese Jack the Ripper was finally apprehended on 29 August, 2016, for rape, murder and mutilation of 11 women in the northwest province of Gansu and the neighboring region of Inner Mongolia from 1988 to 2002.

In 2004, forensic officers who were working on the cold case murders linked one man to all of these 11 killings due to its similar characteristics.

His targets were women wearing red. Once he set his eyes on his target, he will wait and follow them home before raping and killing them. He often cut their throats and mutilate their bodies through ways like cutting off their body parts such as breasts, hands, ears. He earned the nickname of "Chinese Jack the Ripper" by cutting off the reproductive organs of his victims.The youngest victim was only 8 years old.

Police released a statement saying that, "The suspect has a sexual perversion and hates women. He's reclusive and unsociable, but patient".

The reason why Gao managed to escape the police despite the forensic evidence for almost three decades is because as a resident of a small village, he avoided the requirement to provide his fingerprints for the Chinese national identity cards. However, this escape took a turn for a change when his uncle was arrested for a minor offense and a sample of his DNA was taken. It is through the DNA sample that police determined that he was related to the killer.

As to why he suddenly stopped killing in 2002, the reason is still unknown.

2016 marks the 20th death anniversary of JonBenet Ramsey.

JonBenet Ramsey was a 6 year old American beauty queen who was known for the participation in numerous beauty contests in the US.

On 26 December, 1996, JonBenet was found dead in her own home. Just about 8 hours earlier, the mother of JonBenet found a ransom note demanding for JonBenet's safe return.

JonBenet had been bludgeoned over the head before she was strangle with a garrote - Resulted in death by strangulation and a skull fracture. Although there was no evidence of rape, sexual assault was not ruled out as there had been a vaginal injury at the time of the autopsy and it appeared that her vaginal area had been wiped with a cloth. A garrote that was fastened from a paintbrush that had been found inside her mother's bag had also been used to strangle her.

Her family insisted that after returning from the Christmas Party the night before, JonBenet had gone straight to sleep. However, JonBenet's autopsy indicated that she had consumed pineapples at some point throughout the night. A bowl containing pineapples was also found on the kitchen table. This means that she was awake when the family claimed that she was asleep.

The investigation was unable to determine the point of entry into the home and they have determined that the suspiciously long 3 paged ransom letter was written with a pen and paper found in the Ramsey's home. Furthermore, during a handwriting test, it was found that JonBenet's mom, Patsy, has similar handwriting on the one found in the ransom letter.

In December 2003, forensic investigators managed to extract sufficient material from a mixed blood sample on JonBenet's underwear to determine that the DNA belongs to an unknown male. Despite submitting the DNA to CODIS - a DNA database containing more than 1.6 million DNA profiles, the sample did not match anyone.

These findings have led many to believe that JonBenet had been killed by somebody living in the home or the family members themselves. People became more suspicious when her family refused to cooperate or even assist the investigators.

Despite all the possible speculations that surrounds her death, JonBenet's death still remains unsolved.

Richard Chase, also known as The Vampire of Sacramento, had a total of 6 victim count in a span of one month. His crimes included murder, necrophilia, cannibalism and mutilation. He is known as The Vampire of Sacramento because he drank the blood of his victims and ate their internal organs. He said that he had to consume his victims in order to prevent the Nazis from turning his blood into powder via poison.

Chase, by the age of 10, had already displayed signs of the possibility that he might grow to be a serial killer. These signs commonly includes the wetting of bed beyond the normal age, cruelty to animals and setting fires. These signs were possibly "enhanced" due to his strict upbringing and violent father. During his teenage years, he got involved with drugs and showed symptoms of delusional thinking. Even though he sought help from a psychiatrist, he was denied help as "his problems were a result of his severe mental disorders".

Despite having numerous girlfriends in high school, Chase did not maintain anything steady, partly due to his inability to achieve or maintain an erection. He was unable to become aroused in the presence of female. It was later determined that Chase had an aversion to conventional sex and could only achieve arousal and orgasm through disturbed acts, such as the killing of animals and necrophilia.

In 1975, he contracted blood poisoning after injecting rabbit's blood into his veins. He was then committed to a mental institution, which he eventually escaped. This escape did not last long as he was apprehended at his mother's place and was sent to an institution for the criminally insane. During his time there, he often talked about killing rabbits and was once found with blood smeared on his mouth - Hospital staffs found out that he had captured two birds, snapped their necks and sucked their blood out.

Upon release from the institution, he was living in his parent's home. He began to capture, torture and drank the blood of animals. His fascination with firearms grew, which led him to purchase several handguns, which he practiced obsessively. He also became obsessed with the crimes of the Hillside Strangler.

On August 3, 1977, police found his car lodged in a sand drift; inside were 2 rifles, a pile of clothes, a bucket full of blood and a cow's liver. He was naked and screaming while soaked in blood, claiming that his blood had leaked out of him. No charges were filed against him for this incident, as he managed to convince the police that it was animal's blood.

His first murder started on December 29, 1977, and ending on January 27, 1978. For all his victims, he would first shoot them with his firearms, before proceeding to stab them or to cut them open before performing necrophilia and cannibalism. He even made smoothies out of their organs - (Refer to the blender used in the attached photograph).

Five days after the last murder, Chase was finally apprehended. In his home, detectives found that his walls, floor, ceiling, refrigerator and his utensils were all soaked in blood. On his kitchen counter was the blender that he used to make his bloody smoothies - caked with blood and rotting matter of internal organs. In his refrigerator, they found multiple animal body parts, his victims' brains in a container, pieces of body of as well as internal organs.

On May 8, 1979, despite the defense asking for clemency, the judge sentenced Chase to death by the gas chamber because he was not legally insane. During his time in prison, he was feared by many inmates due to the notoriety of his crimes. However, before the death sentence could be carried out, Chase was found dead in his cell on December 26, 1980, from suicide with an overdose of antidepressants that he had saved up for weeks.

Fun Fact: After he was found guilty, he wrote a 10 page letter to Municipal Court Judge Carol Miller, asking for a second physical examination to detect if there are any signs of poisoning. He said that his mother had been poisoning him with soap and that he began the killing of animals and the drinking of their blood to cure himself.

The letter stated:
"As a young boy, I was slowly poisoned by my mother till I was 20. The poisoning caused construction of my inner metabolism, retarding my growth, making it impossible to lead a normal life. She poisoned me with doses of dish soap every day."

Well, I guess someone here took his dracula ~~*feelz*~~ a little too seriously.

Danny Rolling, also known as The Gainesville Ripper had a total victim count of 8 in a span of one year. His crimes includes rape, necrophilia and mutilation. His method of killing is through stabbing, with a U.S Marine Corps-style KBAR knife - which is sharp enough to chip and slash bones.

In his younger days, Rolling's father abused him and the rest of his family. Rolling was subjected to the most abuse and was constantly told that he was an unwanted child. During his teenage years, Rolling committed minor crimes such as robberies.

After years of being subjected to abuse, Rolling finally broke it in May 1990. He attempted to murder his father, but failed. However, his father lost an eye and ear as a result of the attack.

The urge to kill apparently did not end there.

Rolling particularly targeted brunette, female college students.

On August 24, 1990. Rolling broke into the apartment of of 17 year old university freshmen Sonja Larson and Christina Powell. He stabbed, mutilated and raped both teenagers - one after she was dead.

The following day, Rolling killed Christa Hoyt, 18 years old. This killing in particular, is quite interesting as he posed her body in a manner where she was propped up, sitting on her bed and bent over at the waist. Rolling had also raped her, sliced off her nipples, sliced open her torso from her chest to her pubic bone and had her severed head perched on a shelf across the room.

(Some killers are known to pose the bodies of their victims in a certain manner to send a certain message across or to simply shock the person who is to chance upon the scene.)

On August 27, 1990, Rolling committed his last killings. He killed Manuel Taboada, 23, and Tracy Paules, 23. They were stabbed repeatedly and Paules was raped.

Rolling remained free until September 8, 1990. He was apprehended after a botched robbery.
During the course of investigation, police found audio diaries alluding to the murders. He also became a prime suspect for an unsolved triple homicide of the Grissom family in Shreveport as the methods of killings were very similar to the ones in the Gainesville murders. It turns out that Rolling DID commit the triple homicide of the Grissom family. On November 4, 1989, He attacked the family during their dinner time, killing William Grissom, 55, Julie Grissom, 24 and Sean Grissom, 8.

Danny Rolling pleaded guilty to all 8 counts of the murders and was sentenced to death via lethal injection on each count. He was executed by lethal injection on October 25, 2006.

Christa Hoyt's mother, however, was unhappy about the method of execution. She says, "I'm a nurse, and I've seen my patients die. And they died a much more horrific death than what his man suffered through, that's for sure. He relaxed, went to sleep, did not feel anything".

Fun fact:
Rolling's last meal: Lobster tail, shrimp, baked potato, strawberry cheese cake and sweet tea.

Rolling's final words: He sang a song, repeating the line, "None greater than thee, oh Lord."

Brenda Spencer, a 16 year old girl who opened fire at Cleveland Elementary School, reported that "I don't like Mondays. This will enlighten the day." when inquired why she did it.

Haha, this girl got guts and really had a huge hatred for Monday blues.

Robert Hansen, also known as Butcher Baker or Alaska's Serial Killer had a total victim count of minimum 17-21.

Being a professional hunter whom have set multiple hunting records, Hansen kidnaps and releases his victims into the woods before stalking and hunting them down with a hunting knife or rifle.

Guess someone took his hobby a little too seriously.

Those who were musically inclined in Auschwitz were chosen to be part of the orchestra. They were instructed to play when the Nazis were gassing their victims so that the music can drown out the screams.

Luka Magnotta, a gay pornographic actor, is notoriously known for the murder of Lin Jun. the characteristics of his crimes includes cannibalism, necrophilia, dismemberment and the producing of snuff movie.

On May 25, 2012, an 11 minute video, titled "1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick" was uploaded onto bestgore.com. The video depicts a naked asian male tied onto a bed frame where he was repeatedly stabbed, followed by dismemberment and acts of necrophilia. The killer then cuts off parts of the victim's flesh and fed it to the dog. The killer even used the victim's severed hand to pleasure himself.

After the killing, Magnotta went on to mail out different dismembered body parts of the victim to various Canadian government parties. The victim was then identified as Lin Jun, and the prime suspect was quickly identified at Luka Rocco Magnotta, who had by then fled the country. However, despite fleeing, he still continued to mail body parts of Lin Jun, but instead to the government parties like before, he mailed it to schools.

An arrest warrant for Magnotta was issued, accusing him of the following crimes: First degree murder; Committing an indignity to a dead body; Publishing obscene material; Mailing obscene, indecent, immoral and scurrilous material; and Criminally harassing Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and several members of parliament.

On June 4, 2014, Magnotta was finally apprehended by the Berlin Police at an internet cafe. He was also investigated for other possible crimes involving animal cruelty.

He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.

Peter Kurten, also known as The Vampire of Dusseldorf, had lived a poverty-stricken childhood that involved constant physical abuse by his sadistic, alcoholic father. He and his siblings were also forced to watch the brutal rapes of their mother by their father.

When Kurten was nine years old, he formed an unhealthy relationship with a dog-catcher who was living in the same apartment building. Kurten was introduced to the practice of bestiality. Soon, Kurten was performing perverse acts with sheep and goats while stabbing them to death. He also confessed to drowning two of this schoolmates while playing on a raft – At the point of time, their deaths were ruled as an accident.

By the age of 16, Kurten had begun committing petty crimes and had ran away from home to escape the violent hands of his father. It was not long after that when his father got jailed for 3 years for committing incest with Kurten’s 13 year old sister.

During one of his stints in prison, Kurten was placed in solitary confinement where he developed a perverse fantasy, which allowed him to achieve an orgasm while imagining himself performing brutal sex acts. He enjoyed these fantasies so much that he would commit infractions in order to be placed in solitary, which gave him a private space to fantasize.

On May 25, 1913, Kurten started his first killing.

February 9, 1929 - Rosa Ohliger, 9: Stabbed 13 times until he became sexually excited & climaxed. He revisited the site multiple times to relieve the excitement he felt during the attack, and during one of these visits, he poured gasoline and set fire to the dead body to get rid of the evidence.
February 14, 1929 - Scheer, 45: Stabbed 20 times.
August 23, 1929 - Gertrude Hamacher, 5 & Louise Lenzen, 14: Strangled, slitting of throat, decapitation.
September 1929 - Ida Reuter: Raped and beaten to death
October 12, 1929 - Elizabeth Dorrier: Raped and beaten to death
November 7, 1929 - Gertrude Albermann, 5: Strangled and stabbed 35 times – Sent local newspaper a map to the exact position

The German press that were religiously following the murders, dubbed him as “The Vampire of Dusseldorf” as they learned that the police thought the murderer might be drinking his victim’s blood upon close investigation.

A mentally-disabled man named Stausberg was arrested for similar crimes. While in custody, he confessed to the Vampire's killings and was admitted to an insane asylum. The police, convinced that they had the right man, closed the case leaving Kurten free to select more victims.

Kurten confessed to his wife that he was Vampire of Dusseldorf and insisted that she go to the police and turn him in so she could collect the substantial reward. He had remained fond of his wife and wanted her to be financially secure after he was gone.

On May 30, 1930, Mrs Kurten reluctantly went to the police and led them to a local church where Kurten peacefully surrendered.

During his confession, Peter Kurten admitted to 79 acts of crime and derived great pleasure as he described each one in great detail.

Peter Kurten was charged with 9 murders and 7 attempted murders and went on trial April 13, 1931. Throughout the trial Kurten showed no remorse for his victims.

On July 2, 1931, Peter Kurten was executed by guillotine in the prison courtyard at Klingelputz Prison in Cologne, Germany.

Lam Kwok-Wai, also known as The Rainy Night Butcher due to his habit for killing women during rainy nights, is one of Hong Kong’s only two identified serial killers. The Chinese press dubbed him as Sik Mon or Sex Devil. His murder weapon was his bare hands, which he referred to as his “fork”.

Since he was young, life started out miserable for Lam. His biological mother left the family when he was 3 years old. His father was an alcoholic, his new stepmother was miserable and the relationship between him and his siblings were loveless. Together, they lived in a one room flat, in silence. This upbringing had caused Lam to withdraw into himself, telling his psychiatrists in the later years that he felt “a terrible feeling of boredom and emptiness”.

When Lam was 15 of age, he begun hanging out with boys in gangs, begun committing petty crimes, got involved in gang-fights and sometimes when they got bored, they chased and killed dogs. Gambling also became part of the ritual to get rid of boredom. At the age of 18, Lam dabbled with drugs, but it did not appeal to him as much as alcohol did – He became an alcoholic and said he enjoyed getting drunk because “it made me able to wander around aimlessly without feeling bored. I like the way it made me feel retarded”.

Lam’s life of crime started on April 24, 1992.

1) 19 Year Old female – Squeezed her throat with his right hand until blood spots appeared on the eyelids and cheeks. Raped. Awoke in a pool of blood.
2) 2 months later, 32 Year Old waitress – Grabbed from behind with his right hand on her neck. Squeeze so hard until blood seeped out of the veins of her face, eyes and eardrums.
3) 2 months later, 39 Year old female – Raped. Survived.
4) 2 months later, 32 Year old female – Strangled till she passed out. Raped.
5) 1 months later, 32 Year Old female – Raped.
6) 25 days later, 28 Year Old – Raped

Rapes were common in Hong Kong at that point of him and was usually not heavily reported. However, by now, the people of Tuen Mun were in a state of panic. It was clear that a brutal rapist was on the loose, someone who is capable of strangling people until the point of death. Up till the 6th rape, all his victims managed to survive.

7) 50 Year old – Strangled, raped, necrophilia

By now, Lam had progressed on to murder and necrophilia.

Also, by this time, female undercover were stationed in lifts where Lam is known to attack his victims. They will take turns climbing in and out of lifts alone between midnight and 6am while male officers standby on the upper floors. Chief Inspector Wong said that “I have never been so worried about my team” as “Our pathologists believed that Lam’s throat grip could kill within five seconds”. It was a good ten seconds before the lift reached the first floor. This meant that these female undercover stood a good chance of getting murdered.

Despite employing the MIIDASS – Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System – Lam was still not found. Those who were previously been convicted of wife battering, assault and sexual offenses were trailed and arrested, BUT, Lam did not fit into a typical rapist profile. He was only 21, living at home and had no previous sexual offenses.

8) April 14, 1993. 22 Year Old – Raped, strangled and brutally beaten to death.
9) 23 Year old – Raped and Murdered

On August 8, 1993, Lam committed his final attack. It was also strangely done.

A 21 year old female was brutally beaten and raped. However, in the midst of it all, Lam stopped his attack and started chatting, followed by sharing a cigarette then asking the victim to be his girlfriend. She said yes in order to appease him. They then arranged a date for the following day. After they parted ways, the victim filed a police report and operations were made to arrest Lam.

While he was in police custody, he showed that “He wanted to be loved”, said Chief Inspector Wong. He also said that he was very lonely and begged for the officers to visit him in jail. Confessions were easily gotten out of him and he confessed to the crimes that he did.

Lam was charged with a total of 18 counts of crime that he committed – 7 robberies, 8 rapes and 3 murders - all before the age of 21. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

See Uey Sae Ung (or Si Quey), or more commonly known as Thailand’s Boogeyman, was a Chinese immigrant who came over to Thailand in 1944.

See Uey Sae Ung was a former soldier who fought against the Japanese invaders on the Chinese island during World War 2. It was rumored that his bloodlust was influenced during the war because “his military commanders told the troops to eat the livers of the enemy soldiers to take on their strength and power”. Upon his immigration to Thailand, See Uey Sae Ung toiled as a coolie, rickshaw-puller and a vegetable farmer. He also made his way to become Thailand’s most legendary serial killer.

He was known to have suffocated more than half a dozen of young boys and ate their hearts as he thought that by eating the heart, he would gain special powers. He was executed in the 1958 and his body was mummified and is currently on display at Bangkok’s Siriraj Medical Museum.
